François Bayer became Maître on 5 December 1764. He was originally from Germany, but had his workshop at multiple locations in Paris. He had a large family and was always struggling with money. Despite his skill as a marqueteur he was declared bankrupt in both 1780 and 1781. As a result he quit manufacturing furniture and focused on restoring them instead.
