A Dutch Louis Seize sécrétaire à abattant with Lacquered Panels
The secretaire is of the “à abattant” type (with a fall-front), which was immensely popular in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. Of breakfront form, on four tapered feet (the front ones canted) and with canted and panelled angles on the front. Under the marble top and the dentilled cornice a frieze drawer with a lacquered panel. The fall-front and the lower part with doors with three panels: a lacquered one in the middle flanked by veneered panels decorated with shells within lozenges. The fall-front encloses a fitted interior with drawers.
