This pocket sundial has been made in the late 18th century in Brno, Czech Republic by Pater Aurelius from the Augustinian order. The Augustinian order settled in Brünn (now Brno) around 1350 and developed into the most important Augustinian settlement of the region Moldavia.
The back of the sundial is inscribed with places and their corresponding latitude. For example, if the owner found himself in Venice he had to set the sundial at 45 degrees to get an accurate time. There are in total twenty cities inscribed on the back.
