A Dutch Louis Seize Box
Description

A lockable box on a narrow ebony plinth, supported by four small feet. The four sides are decorated with trompe l’oeil marquetery of geometrical shapes in different types of wood. The four slightly protruding corners, of which the front corners are diagonally placed, are decorated with faux fluting. The central post, that has the same decoration, is fitted with a lock. The lid is decorated with geometrical shapes framed in meandering ribbons. The interior is divided into two layers. The lower compartment can be reached by taking out the top tray. The tray is divided in four equal compartments with separate lids.
